Ashburton suffers
Wet weather took its toll on the gate takings at the Ashburton Trotting Club’s meeting yesterday.
The secretary of the club, Mr Trevor Robertson, said about 4000 people went to the meeting, compared to 6000 last year.
“We probably had to rely on local support rather than the travelling public,” he said.
In spite of the club’s facilities which enabled spectators to stay out of the rain, people had still stayed away, Mr Robertson sais.
