Catching up on missed titles
Here are a few suggestions from during the year which you may like to catch up with during the holidays.
“The Black Stallion” (G), llOmin, Warner Home Video. The story of a boy and a horse and the bond .
forged between them and a former horse trainer. Nothing in this to upset, and it is warmly recommended for all ages. Stars Kelly Reno, Mickey Rooney. Stereo. • '
“Mr Mom” (PG), 90min, Roadshow. Role-reversal
with crazy consequences when he takes over the home and she becomes an executive. A United States box office hit of 1983. Stars Michael Keaton, Terri Garr.
“Tender Mercies” (PG), 87min, Thorn EMI. It won two Oscars,in 1984 and tells of a broke down country and western singer rebuilding his life. Stars Robert Duvall, Tess Harper, Betty Buckley. Slightly heavy going in places, but worth the effort of sticking to it. "Splash” (PG), 105mto, .Touchstone (Walt Disney). An entertaining love story involving a staid ypung businessman and a mermaid. Quietly amusing and a movie which leaves one feeling warm. Nothing in this one to offend, stars Tom Hanks, Daryl Hannah, Eugene Levy, John Candy.
“The Lords of Discipline” (M), 103 min, CIC-Taft. Based on a true story, this tells of, the effects upon staff and cadets at a Carolina military academy when a young black man is admitted for the first time. A powerful, moving story and a no-holds-barred condemnation of a bigoted system. Stars DAvid Keith, Robert Prosky, G. D. Spradin, Barbara Badcock. “Educating Rita” (PG), 112 min, RCA/Columbia? Hoyts. A romantic comedy about a working wife who enrols in open university to further her education and find herself. Fun viewing for the family, though there are some slow passages. Stars Michael Caine, Julie Walters, Maureen Lipman. Other suggestions; “Romancing the Stone;” Moscow On The Hudson;” “Lassister,” “Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes;” “Sqng and Dance;” “The Boat;” “The Killing Fields;” “Dune;” -“Country,” “Places in The Heart;” “The Last Starfighter,” “The Karate Kid;” “Blue Thunder,” “Airwolf;” “Crime Busters;” “The Wild Geese.”
