Man killed by blade

. A Culverden man was killed instantly on Friday when the blade of a roto-cut grass mower struck him while he was working on the machine in a pit He was Garth Mortimer, aged 32, a driver-operator for the Aihuri County Council, married, with two chilz dren. Constable Peter Gilfedder, of the Hanmer Springs police, said the accident happened about 9.30 a.m. when the tractor attached to the mower started. Mr Mortimer had been working under the mower in a pit and was struck by a blade. An inquest was opened before Mr B. J. Peters, Justice of the Peace, and was adjourned sine die.
