Govt sets up land agency
PA Wellington The Government has set up a commercial agency for private and public land management, the Minister of State Services, Mr Rodger, said yesterday. The agency, which is part of the Government’s environmental reorganisation, will be known as the Land Development and Management Corporation. It will hold, develop and manage land owned or occupied by it for farming and allied purposes. It will also
provide land for settlement. Mr Rodger said the agency would be empowered to commercially manage private and public land in its own right and on behalf of other State organisations and private owners. It would also be given the power to purchase, lease, acquire and sell land on a commercial basis either in its own right or on behalf of others.
The corporation’s activities will extend to commercial ventures associated with the land and its products. An interim board of management is to be ; set up to oversee and report to the Government on the establishment of the new corporation. The board will be asked to make recommendations to Ministers concerning the function and organisation of the new corporation and ways of safeguarding the status of its employees.
