Public Notices LOCAL ; government; COMMISSION NOTICE OF DETERMINATION OF WARD BOUNDARIES, WARD REPRESENTATION AND MEMBERSHIP OF THE CHRISTCHURCH CITY COUNCIL IN ACCORDANCE with the provisions of Section 568 of the Local Government Act 1974, the Commission has determined that(A) The City of Christchurch shall continue to be divided into the 5 Wards known as the North Ward, South Ward, West Ward, East Ward, and Pegasus Ward; (b) The number of members to be elected to The Christchurch City Council (other that the Mayor) shall be 19; (c) The number of members to be elected by the Electors of each Ward shall be as follows— North Ward 4 members. South Ward 4 members West Ward 3 members. East Ward 4 members Pegasus Ward 4 members The effect of this determination is that the wards representation, and membership for the 1986 election of members of the Christchurch City Council will be the same as for the 1983 elections. The Commission noted that following public notification of the City Council’s proposals no submissions were received on them. In theCommlsslon’s view, the absence of public comment upon the City’s proposals Indicates that there Is general public acceptance of the present situation. This factor was one to which the Commission gave great weight in Its deliberations. It was of the opinion that It would need compelling reasons to change a Council’s ■Proposals where there has been no objection from the people of the district. It was also persuaded that the present Wards, having been largely unchanged since 1974, have been accepted by the people of Christchurch as giving adequate consideration to community of interest. Commissioner Buck took no part In the Commission’s deliberations. Copies of the full determination maybe Inspected at the office of the Commission at the address shown below, at the office of the Chrlstchlurch City Council, 163 - 173 Tuam Street, Christchurch, and at the office of the Department of Internal Affairs, 159 Manchester Street, Christchurch.
