PA Auckland The warm favourite, Placid Victor, easily won the |BO,OOO TNT New Zealand Messenger Championship at Alexandra .Park last evening. -The four-year-old Vance Hanover entire had been in grand form this season, and a last-start second placing in the. Thames Cup cemented his place as outright, favourite for the 2700 m event ’After drawing No. 3, Placid Victor was taken into the lead by driver Maurice McKendry with about 2200 m to run and thereafter was never in danger of defeat •With more than 600 m to run only one of his rivals was good enough to keep in touch. ’Placid Victor turned for home with Luxury Liner, in hot pursuit but he proved far too strong and won by two and a half lengths in the grand time of 3:23.2. -y The time bettered Royderi Glen’s race record by two and twb-tenths of a second and compares' more than favourably with Armalight’s allcomers’ track record of 3:20.7. Luxury Liner, after starting from the worst-possible draw, did very well to finish second. He was a length and a half in front of the Christchurch mare Quiet Touch, which also did remarkably well for her placing.
