South Africa

Sir, — In reply to C. W. Bromley (“The Press,” December 20), if any-, body feels antagonised by my courtesy, that is their misfortune. I am aware of Dr Goebbels; and C. W. Bromley should direct his comments elsewhere. I was with my family when, among other expert ences, they lost two homes through bombing in war-torn Europe; and they assisted a Jewish neighbour who was being bullied by “blackshirts.” My later work (for New Zealand) was assessed as being “worth a company of soldiers at Bumham.” I have not actually set foot on African soil. However, it seems strange that I am at liberty to believe the news media about what is going on in Ethiopia (famine) but not about the injustices of apartheid in South Africa. — Yours, etc., KENNETH EBER MARTIN, * Co-spokesperson, Hart (Christchurch). December 20, 1985.
