Taylors Mistake
Sir,—l was saddened to read that rural land at Taylors Mistake is to be sewered and made residential. Taylors Mistake should retain its rural environment. It is the only ocean beach in Christchurch offset by a natural valley with beautiful spurs and interesting rocky headlands. Scarborough, Sumner and New Brighton beaches have houses and roads facing them. Taylors Mistake is next to the Godley Head farm park and there is a rare opportunity now to realise a tremendous recreation asset because the rural area of Scarborough Spur and Taylors Mistake Valley, some 372 ha, is for sale. Surely public bodies such as the City Council and the Drainage Board should be seeking to buy the land. A 372 ha farm park extension seems to offer far greater benefit to ratepayers than, say $2 million in Victoria Square or spending public funds to sewer a beautiful rural area.— Yours, etc., (MRS) D. JENSEN. December 20, 1985.
