Call on shares
Due date for payment of Southern Petroleum, NL, 10c a share call on contributing shares is January 24. Books dose on December 20 for determining shareholders to whom notice of the call will be sent. The call applies to all 50c ordinary shares at present unpaid to 25c. The call is being made to fund the S6.BM farmin to Licence Area 034, in Taranaki, where a major oil and gas exploration programme is to start in the New Year. Rates rise Australian short-term interest rates rose to their highest level for three and a half years after the Reserve Bank confirmed that there would be no easing in monetary policy. The Commonwealth Bank of Australia* said it would lift its prime rate to 19.75 per cent from 1925 per cent, putting it in line with the record rate set by Westpac Banking Corporation. Chase AMP Bank, Ltd, announced it would lift its rate to 19.50 per cent from 1925 per cent Family sells Tasman Lumber Company and Fletcher Merchants, Ltd, both subsidiaries of Fletcher Challenge, have purchased the operations of the Mastertonbased sawmiller, merchant •end forest owner, C. E. Daniell, Ltd. FCL said that family shareholders of C. E. Daniell had accepted the offer, which was for an undisclosed aash ’ sum and was approved by, the Commerce Commission.
