Rough ride for yachties
In blustery conditions on the Estuary yesterday, Mark Howell, in Aphrodite, needed only third place to clinch the Graham Mander Canterbury P class yachting championships with one race still to sail. Several yachts were flattened at the start In the rough conditions. Seme recovered and others withdrew. Matthew Nolan, in Echo, set a fast pace, and opened
up an unassailable lead on the fleet, but had trouble at the third leg of the triangle breaking the gooseneck on the boom letting Shadow Fox, skippered by Stephen Reay, through to take the lead, followed by Dean Lamb, in Prime Time. On the windward-leeward leg Prime Time closed up on Shadow Fox but was never close enough to threaten the leader who won by 30s, with Aphrodite
a further 3min Ils back in third place. Results:— Race four (17):— Shadow Fox (S. Reay, Ravensbourne Yacht Club) Ihr Bmin 265, 1; Prime Time (D.
