Good trade prospects
The first round trip of the Tasman container ship Canterbury Express looks set to be a big success. The chairman of Tasman Express Line, Mr Graham Malaghan, told a luncheon audience this week that shippers were already looking for space on the vessel and her sister ship, the Auckland Express. “The Canterbury Express will cross the Tasman with our ST cargo load ever,” he Mr Malaghan was speaking at a function after the ship’s naming ceremony on Thursday. He said that although the Tasman shipping trade was highly competitive at present, his firm had believed there were opportunities under C.E.R. for another regular service. The Auckland Express began its Tasman run in September. The ships, between them, will call at three New Zealand and two Australian ports every nine days.
