Bonn seeks ‘star wars’ role

NZPA-Reuter New York The West German Government announced yesterday that it planned to open negotiations with Washington on a role in “star wars” research and aims at an agreement by March. A spokesman, Friedhelm Ost, said that the Cabinet had voted to start talks in January on a general framework agreement on technological co-operation, in which the main emphasis would be on participation in the project. The Soviet news agency, Tass, immediately criticised this. It said that the Bonn Government hoped to use the American strategic defence initiative as a means to arm the West German Army with nuclear weapons. The announcement made

The proposed agreement was aimed purely at protecting the interests of businesses that decided to participate by laying out new guide-lines on technology transfer, patent rights, pricing, and secrecy regulations.
