Merivale group hopeful
The Merivale Precinct Society hopes to confirm today its contracts to buy two blocks of Merivale land for its planned village mews. The lawyer handling the deal for the society’s company, Merivale Precinct Developments, Ltd, Mr Richard Burtt, said the company had not confirmed yesterday as it had hoped. It was still meeting conditions of a loan offer from a financier for the sale price of $1.6 million. Mr Burtt said the company hoped to confirm today. The company’s plan is to build 20 town houses, a community centre and restaurant with underground parking, and a commercial If the project goes ahead it will be New Zealand’s first village mews project. The idea for the development is that of Christchurch architect, Mr Peter Beaven, who has seen similar developments in Britain.
