Winning swims from Games contender

Linda Robinson (Wharenui) won the Canterbury open women’s 800 m and 1500 m freestyle championships at Queen Elizabeth II Park this week. Robinson, aged 14, and a contender for the Edinburgh Commonwealth Games team next year, beat two clubmates into the minor placings. Tania Rahurahu was second in both events, and Phillipa Langrell, who has moved from Timaru to Christchurch, was third in both events. Duncan Doig (Wharenui) won the men’s open 1500 m freestyle title. Doig won by 15m from his clubmate, Michael Ford. Another Wharenui swimmer, Glenn Schrader,

event a clean sweep for the club. David Baars (Avon Aquatics) broke the Wharenui domination when he won the men’s 800 m freestyle. Baars had a close battle with Doig and Ford, winning by sm.
