Boost for holiday resort
PA Wellington An Arab monarch has given a healthy start to fund-raising for a police holiday resort on the Firth of Thames, near Auckland. Shaikh Isa bin Sulman alKhalifah, Emir of Bahrain, lavished gifts wherever he went on his visit to New Zealand in September. Among beneficiaries of his
generosity were dozens of police officers who assisted with security arrangements for the head of the Gulf State. Departmental policy prevents officers from accepting gifts of money and the cash — believed to be more than $120,000 - will all be paid to the Police Centennial Trust which is co-ordi-nating fundraising for a $2 million resort near Marae-
tai. The trust has already received ’521,000 — the Auckland division’s contribution — and more than $lOO,OOO is expected to swell the totah The trust hopes to complete the complex, which includes 15 self-contained chalet units and a recreation hall, in time for the police centenary in September.
