Flag regulations revoked

PA Wellington Regulations on the ceremony of honouring the New Zealand flag in schools have been revoked. The Minister of Education, Mr Marshall, said that the 1941 regulations which outlined when the ceremony should be observed were formally revoked by the Governor-General, Sir Paul Reeves, at an Executive

Council meeting. But the Government would encourage schools to fly flags on days such as Waitangi Day. Mr Marshall said the regulations, introduced by a Labour may have been appropriate in the early 19405, but were not now. They were among some often quoted by the Prime

Minister, Mr Lange, and Deputy Prime Minister/Mr Palmer, when criticising ridiculous regulations,; he said. .

Mr Marshall said he was surprised how many schools did fly flags. One school told him it had a good First XV and flying the flag was a good way to decide which way the team should play on windy days.
