Mr Tauroa applies for U.N. job
PA Wellington The Race Relations Conciliator, Mr Hiwi Tauroa, says he wants to work in Switzerland. Mr Tauroa, who will retire in February after three years in the job, said yesterday that he was not sure what he would do next but had applied to the United Nations in Geneva for work. Mr Tauroa said he had written to the U.N. to ask about the possibility of a job in race relations and human
rights. He said he did not know what his chances were but he was known to many U.N. staff through conferences and seminars in New York and Bangkok.
Mr Tauroa said he had offers of jobs within New Zealand but was not at liberty to talk about them. He hinted that one might mean work with Maoris to stop them believing they were destined to fail in the European world.
