Irish Derby boosted

NZPA-Reuter New York Starting next June the 119-year-old Irish Derby will be known as The Budweiser Irish Derby and will get a boost in stake money. The Irish Turf Club and the Budweiser beer division of Anheuser-Busch have announced that under a threeyear agreement the brewery will sponsor the thoroughbred race fdr three-year-olds at the Curragh, near Dublin. - _ ; Under the agreement, the purse for next year’s race will total £450,000 Irish ($NZ1,067,338), an increase of £250,000 ($NZ602,608) from this year’s event, making it the richest race in Europe. Anheuser-Busch, the world’s largest brewer, also sponsors the Budweiser Arlington Million in Chicago and a number of other horse races in the United States.
