Owner ‘disgusted’ with Avon’s Lord decision
PA Wellington Hec Tapper, the ownertrainer of Avon’s Lord, intends to appeal against Friday’s decision of the Wellington District Committee which allowed placings to stand in the Innsbrook Wellingtoon Guineas.
Tapper’s initial appeal failed when the committee found that although Avon’s Lord was intefered with by the eventual winner, Honour Bright, it was not enough to warrant a change in placings.
This decision endorsed the findings of the judicial committee on raceday who considered an inquiry instigated by stipendary steward, Mr Noel McCutcheon. Tapper said he believed an appeal to the Racing Conference had to be lodged by Friday and is intent on doing so. “The evidence is there in black and white and I am disgusted at the result. Honour Bright consistently bored in on him,” he said. “I am not concerned
about the money the decision has cost me.
“The injustice has been done to the public who backed him and to the horse himself who never got the chance to become a triple crown winner."
Avon’s Lord is, in the meantime, recuperating from having three screws inserted into his near hind leg.
Tapper said the horse was doing very well and could be back in work by May.
