Japanese growth slowing
NZPA-AFP Tokyo Officials have forecast a slowdown in Japanese growth because of declining corporate earnings. “The economy has continued its slow uptrend,” the Economic Planning Agency said in a monthly report, but noted that earnings of manufacturing industries were now on a definite downtrend, reflecting an economic slowdown in the United States and the yen’s rise.
Industrial output and other economic indicators are still moving erratically, the report said. Industrial production declined 1.1 per cent in September and advanced 1.3 per cent in October. E.P.A. officials also forecast a 0.4 per cent drop in November and a 1.0 per cent increase in December.
