Discovery
Sir,—ln “The Press” of December 4 there was a full-page advertisement stating that in 1769 Captain James Cook discovered New Zealand. Perhaps the Race Relations Conciliation officials could give their views on this statement. I find it insulting. Captain Cook did not discover New Zealand, nor did he discover Hawaii. Even Captain Cook knew New Zealand was already populated. If we have to have advertising on obnoxious topics (alcohol) let us at least have relevant and factual statements. — Yours, etc., M. O’NEILL. December 14, 1985.
