Second yacht win

Last year’s winners, Ray Harrison and Margaret Waugh, sailing Wairua 11, won the Beveridge interclub open yacht trophy race in fresh easterly conditions on the estuary on Saturday. Harrison and Waugh handled the conditions well, and won the event by 3s, from Andenor, skippered by Robin Ward and Stephanie Blair. A further 3s back in third spot were Peter Smith and I. Baker, sailing That’s Us. - .

It was the largest fleet to assemble for the inter-club trophy for many years. The Sunbursts took the first seven places in a tight finish.

The first non Sunburst to finish was the Zephyr yacht, Carousel, skippered by David Richardson, who was 4min down on the winner.
