Puhinui Jim appeals at Waikato

Special correspondent Auckland Puhinui Jim, fresh from an impressive all-the-way win at Alexandra Park on November 22, could well employ similar tactics to good effect in the feature event at the Waikato Trotting Club’s meeting at Claudelands this evening. Puhinui Jim will be driven by the in-form reinsman, Maurice McKendry, who handled him last time out. They look a formidable combination from No. 1 behind the barrier in the $lO,OOO Best Western Flying Stakes, a mobile 1700 m race for two-year-olds. Stiff opposition is sure to come from Maurie’s Boy,

Sir Robert and Coma Berenices, who filled the minor platings behind Puhinui Jim on November 22.

The Tay Bridge colt, however, improved with every run thus far and seems likely to be hardest to beat if allowed to make all the P Brecon Armbro and Steffan seem likely to dispute the finish to the second leg of the T.A.B. double, the South Pacific Motor Inn Mobile Pace.

Brecon Armbro, a past winner on the course, is a good beginner from behind the mobile gate, while Steffan has a lot of ability and is much better than his recent form suggests.
