Joe Junior to win again today?

By

G. K. YULE

Joe Junior looks set to continue on his winning way in the Methven Fertiliser Handicap, final leg of the T.A.B. treble at the Methven Trotting Club’s meeting today.

He will meet much sterner opposition in this event, but looks as though he will measure up. His winning run at Orari last week if anything improved his condition ana he looked in great heart when paraded at the Addington trials on Wednesday. He was given a quiet run and was travelling comfortably towards the end, suggesting that the 3200 m in this race will be well within his capabilities. Tuarangi Guy has an outstanding record over the

distance. He covered extra ground and dropped right away at the end of 2600 m at Addington Raceway on November 15 at his latest start. Back to his favourite distance and in a race in which the pace is unlikely to be as testing as that at Addington, he must be one of the better, chances.

Two others expected to appreciate the drop in class are Lady Sadie and Game Greg.

Lady Sadie, not noted for consistency, has not been successful since she won this race 12 months ago when driven by Doody Townley. Jack Smolensk! has been her driver this season and will continue his association with her. Lady Sadie raced at the Addington trials on Wednesday when she drifted badly

early, but hit out in splendid style afterwards. She looks ready for a big run. Game Greg firmed in favour when he won at the Addington trials. He will be driven by Felix Newfield, who handled him earlier in his career when he showed much potential as a stayer. He has been at his best on firm footing and should he strike conditions which suit, he should not be far away. Novander, Racey Tracey, Lord Seaton and Hard Cash have little in the way of worthwhile recent form to recommend them, but the last-named was sixth, even if it was a distant one, in the Taubmans Dominion Handicap on November 23. Any one of them could figure in the finish of a race in which betting should be well spread.
