Port Hills cablecar proposal
Sir,—The proposal to have a cablecar complex on our Port Hills fills me with deep concern. I trust that all the local authorities concerned will not make hasty decisions. First, this is a commercial project. Second, and in my opinion more important, there are aesthetic and environmental factors which must be given full consideration. Any quick decisions will not allow the many interested organisations and individuals the opportunity to express their views. With the holiday period bearing upon us, many organisations will not be having meetings before late January, which will not allow much time for them to consider the
proposal and to make any suggestions for or against it. Christchurch . is proud of its Port Hills. Let us not regret any hasty acceptance of the idea to have cablecars on our precious hill slopes. — Yours, etc., B. R. HANSEN. December 4, 1985.
Sir,—l strongly object to any cablecar complex for our Port Hills. Heathcote is already spoilt by too many houses being built and trees getting chopped down. Let those tourists who want a cheap thrill go to Queenstown or, better still, the Gold Coast. — Yours, etc., A. C. PRONK. December 4, 1985.
