Kahu Del on a winning streak

Special correspondent Wellington A second row draw should not stop Kahu Del continuing on her winning way when she contests the Cable Price Toyota Mobile Pace at the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting at Hutt Park this evening. The Armbro Del mare virtually toyed with her opposition on Wednesday night when she raced away to win the 2000 m event by three lengths. She faces similar opposition tonight though she may have some problems from the inside of the second row. She is not the most reliable of beginners and it may be some advantage if she is a little slow, as her driver, Anthony Butt, would be able to get her off the fence. On Wednesday Kahu Del was a shade slow and settled at the back before looping the field with a lap

to run. Butt may have to adopt similar tactics again and Kahu Del certainly has the class to do so.

Gaelic Skipper, which chased Kahu Del home on Wednesday, may be the toughest again. The Mercedes gelding had little luck in the running on the first night, being pushed back to near last on the turn. He rattled home late once he cleared the pocket but had no chance with the winner.

Mer Man is a fresh runner to the meeting. He showed he was back to his best at Manawatu last Friday when winning most impressively and he should be prominent again. Adover Star continues to race well, while Canto Boy could be an improver after being checked in the straight on Wednesday. Fulla Fun is expected to cope with the rise in class

when she steps out in the Superior Springs Naenae Mobile Pace, the second leg of the T.A.B. double. Fulla Fun could not have been more impressive against class 1 opposition on Wednesday. After racing near the back of the field most of the way, the trainer-driver, Jack Carmichael, released the brakes with 600 m to run. The mare quickly gathered in the leaders and raced right away to win as she liked by seven lengths. Her time for the 2400 m was a smart 3min 7.95.

She has again drawn badly tonight but would only have to run up to her first night form to take some beating. Beau Du Jour was a little disappointing when third on Wednesday after being given every chance but was a little fresh and should improve.
