Farmers gain scholarships
Two Nuffield Farming Scholarships have •’ been awarded for six months travel and study In the United Kingdom in 1986. This year’s winners are Bruce Hamilton, a dairy farmer from Westport, and Dick Davison, a sheep and beef farmer from Culverden in Canterbury. Both winners have wide agricultural and other interests beyond their own farming requirements.
Bruce Hamilton will study fertiliser manufacture and use, land use issues, retail sales of farm products, and how technological changes have been handled in the European dairy industry. Dick Davison will look at the strengths and weaknesses of European agriculture in relation to New Zealand, and the effectiveness of farmer organisations in managing a period of rapid change in the industry and community.
The Nuffield Farming Scholarships are sponsored by Air New Zealand, the Daily, Meat, and Wool Boards, the Mackenzie Charitable Foundation, Wrightson N.M.A., Ltd and Federated Farmers, as well as the Past Nuffield Scholars Association.
