Police search fails

PA Napier The police failed yesterday to find any trace of the missing schoolgirl, Kirsa Jensen, after a two-day excavation of a site said to contain her grave. The dig began on Wednesday in scrubland skm south of Napier, after a tip-off from a man the police said was the prime suspect in the murder case.

However, the police found no sign of a body after an area the size of a large

room had been turned over and sifted to the depth of one metre. Detective Inspector Barry Hunter, of the Napier C. 1.8., said the police had also made a metal-detector search of several hectares surrounding the alleged grave, in the hope of picking up the wristwatch Kirsa was wearing when she disappeared. . Mr Hunter said the police would probably speak to the man who provided the tip-

off, in the next two days. The tipster, who was the chief suspect in the murder inquiry, was specific in pointing out the grave site although he had commented on how the area had changed, said Mr Hunter. Kirsa Jensen was last seen alive with her horse at an old gun emplacement at Awatoto, south of Napier, on September 1, 1983. Lack of evidence led the police to shelve the. case seven months later. . < .
