Shipping news $1000 for V.H.F.
The Lyttelton Maritime V.H.F. Association has recently been granted $lOOO by the Lyttelton Harbour Board towards the purchase of an electric generator. The generator will be used to repair and recharge batteries at the association’s Mount Herbert automatic repeater station. The station enables small craft and shore stations within a radius of 160 kilometres to communicate on “Channel 63” V.H.F. radio. The association, which is considering installing another coastal station north of Kaikoura, is funded on a userpays basis and has limited resources. A report to the Harbour Board’s finance committee said: “The success of the system in. contributing to small craft communications and safety in the area has been widely acknowledged.” .
