Objection in U.K. to war game

NZPA-Reuter London Some British shops have refused to sell a computer game based on the Falklands war with Argentina because it allows either side to win, the manufacturer says. A Personal Software Services spokesman said that the stores feared protests against the game, which had been described by one complainant as a slur on the British Army’s reputation.

“We are aware some people would say it is too close to the event but we think three years is enough time for people to accept it,” he said.

The game, which retails at just under £8 aimed at landing British forces on the Falklands by knocking out Argentinian forces on the beaches.

In June, 1982, British forces ended a two-month Argentinian occupation of the islands.

“The game is based on the actual relative strengths of the armies. It is almost educational,” the spokesman said.
