Rain curtails bowls play
Waiau had the distinction of lasting out the longest on the second day yesterday of the $7OOO United Classic Pairs bowls tournament.
Play there was called off after the seventh round, whereas in the city rain ended play after either the fifth or sixth rounds. The biggest problem on most greens was surface water. Instead of play-offs between section winners, the organisers turned to points differentials to find the 16 green winners for the championship proper at Barrington today. Among the top 16 is last year’s winner, John Saundercock (Linwood), who again has Roger Glendinning as his lead.
