New software available to Vectra users
A new word processing package and Microsoft’s Windows software will be available to business users of Hewlett-Packard’s new Vectra personal computer.
The Advance-Write word processing software, developed jointly by HewlettPackard and Samna Corporation, will be a key component of office versions of the HP Vectra.
Hewlett-Packard has also chosen Microsoft’s Windows operating environment as a fundamental building block on which to develop future Hewlett-Packard office software. Windows will be available from HewlettPackard early next year and will also be able to be installed on HP Touchscreen personal computers.
The Vectra personal computer, officially released last month, is compatible with IBM’s AT personal computer and is based on
the Intel 80286 microprocessor. It is smaller and faster than the AT and approximately 20 per cent cheaper, according to Hewlett-Pack-ard.
Initially targeted at the office user, the Vectra will also be sold in other traditional Hewlett-Packard markets, such as the engineering and instrumentation markets. . -
Advance-Write, the new word processing package for the Vectrra, comes in three levels. There is an entry-level version, a secretarial version with a number of advanced word processing features and, comprehensive version which includes a spreadsheet and a filing and retrieving tool. A Vectra personal computer with twin floppy discs and the entry-level Advance-Write software starts at a price of $13,074. The hard disc verison of the Vectra starts at $16,485.
