Computer systems can grow with a customer’s organisation
Computer systems supSlied by Businessworld are exible and can grow with a customer’s organisation. A customer may start with a single IBM personal computer and expand it by attaching additional workstations, or by adding additional computers. The alternatives for expansion include: • Installing additional personal computer systems alongside the initial IBM personal computer. Adding individual systems as the need for workstations grows gives benefits in performance and backup. However, some facilities in
this alternative could be unavoidably duplicated, resulting in higher overall hardware costs. • Attaching workstations and computers together into a network. When the processing needs increase to the point where additional workstations, disc storage and printers are required, an increasing popular solution is networking. This allows all workstations in the network to share common facilities. It involves linking all existing components together with cables and adding networking software.
Businessworld Service Centre has available the latest networking hardware and software. ® Installing a larger computer system. Each existing personal computer can become a work station on a host computer. The host computer would be a larger system, such as an IBM System/36. This configuration allows even greater growth while still protecting the client’s original investment through the use of the original personal computers as workstations. © Using Businessworld’s
computer service bureau. Customers can access Businessworld’s large IBM System/38 computer from their own premises. Workstations and printers are connected to the System/38 over telephone lines.
Because Businessworld uses IBM computers, which are the standard systems in the computer industry, all these options are available to Businessworld clients.
