More than 60 yachts for the starting line

Tomorrow evening, more than 60 yachts are expected to sail through the start line and off down Lyttelton Harbour in the third race of the 1985-86 Dorlon Twilight Series.

The six-race series was first held in 1983-84 and has proved to be an increasingly popular mid-week highlight for Canterbury yachties. With races being held fortnightly on Wednesday evenings, the Dorlon Twilight Series has been likened to business-house cricket and other informal mid-week sporting events, which allow people to participate in a sport without cutting into their week-ends.

friendly rivalry between these two clubs has. given the event a special atmosphere and encouraged participation by people who would not usually take part in the more serious Saturday races.

The races get underway close to the Canterbury Trailer Yacht Squadron’s club rooms at Naval Point, next to the Magazine Bay Marina.

With five courses available, the choice for each race depends on the weather and wind direction, and is made shortly before the 6.30 p.m. start. Entry for the races is informal and contestants may sign up at the club venue shortly before sailing

out to the starting line. The venue alternates between each club with the final race scheduled for February 26.

The sponsor of the event, Dorlon Products, Ltd, a division of Skellerup Industries, Ltd, is an Aucklandbased company specialising in marine clothing and accessories.

Amongst the prizes offered by Dorlon this year are wet weather clothing, fenders, life buoys, warm clothing and safety gear. The major prizes are two wine coolers, which will be presented to the over-all handicap winner of each division.
