Man dies during fund-raising run

A man collapsed and died 60 metres from the finish of a 10km Y.M.C.A. run in Christchurch yesterday. He was Russell Selwyn Powell, aged 40, of Carisbrooke Street, Bexley. Mr Powell appeared to have died of natural causes, said a spokesman for the Christchurch police.

He collapsed in Worcester Street about 11.15 a.m. as he came close to the finish in Cathedral Square. The run started at Christchurch Airport. - It was organised to raise money for a Y.M.C.A. programme for youths with behavioural problems. More than 500 runners took part.
