Showjumpers face testing track

PA Waiuku In a closely fought battle three of New Zealand’s showjumping riders had all to gain as they faced one of the most testing showjumping tracks of the season. The course was the final World Cup preliminary for the 1985-86 season, designed by the Australian course designer, Ted Dwyer, and it produced only two first round clears — from Glenn Pearce of Hunterville on Ups an’ Downs, and from Colin Mclntosh (Taupo) on Resolution.

Only Resolution managed the elusive double clear to pull Mclntosh right into contention for a trip to

Australia at the end of the month. Pearce and Greg Jamieson from Turua could only manage second equal yesterday along with John Cottle (Wellington). Cottle’s Heritage and Jamieson’s Chichester took a rail in the first round while Pearce caught a rail in the second round.

Neither Beatson nor Wilson started yesterday. The New Zealand

showjumping selectors named Jamieson with Chichester and Pearce with Ups An’ Downs as the two riders who will fly to Australia on the 28th.
