Sir Alba too good

Sir Alba extended his career earnings to $124,165 when he ran out an easy winner of the $6500 Orari Challenge Stakes for three-year-olds at Orari on Saturday. A brilliant winner of the $125,000 ($76,250 first prize), Fay Richwhite New Zealand Sires’ Stakes Final in a record Imin 57.4 s mile at Addington on Show Day, and a gallant second to Keystone Surprise in the $20,000 Matinee Championship on the last night of the New Zealand Cup carnival, Sir Alba was a class above his rivals on Saturday after

being handy in the open over the last 1600 m.

Still going strongly at the finish, the Alba Counsel colt ran home his last 800 m in 59.3 s on a slow grass track to win by two lengths, returning 3min 28.2 s for the full 2600 m.

The maiden, Sossy, having only his fifth race start, fought on solidly from the trail to take second, with a length to his stablemate, Trifecta, battling on for third after trailing Sir Alba on the outer over the last 1600 m. Uncle Jasper, four back on the outer mostly, ran on late for fourth.
