Hockey Hockey squad for coaching camp named

A squad of 27 hockey players has been named for a New Zealand coaching camp in Wellington on March 8 and 9 next year. The camp, a build-up to the World Cun in October next year, will exclude seven players at present overseas, and Ramesh Patel, who was injured in England in October.

The players at present overseas are John Melhuish, Peter Miskimmin, Brent Miskimmin, Stuart Grimshaw (Wellington), Grant McLeod (Northland), Jon Tanner (Hamilton) and Peter Daji (Auckland). Notable absentees from the squad are two Canterbury players, George Carnoutsos and John Radovonich, but the New Zealand coach, Mr Trevor Blake, said the absence of players from the squad would not prevent their selection in the World Cup team to be named next June.

The 19-year-old Canterbury player, Craig Mcßobb, who showed maturity and skill at the national tournament in Christchurch in September, has deservedly won a place in the squad. The squad is: Goal-keepers: Don Davis (Canterbury); lan Woodley (Auckland); Graeme Sligo (Bay of Plenty).

Defenders: Chris Brown, David Peterson, Chan Chiba, Jeff Archibald (Auckland); Mark Tynan, Robin Wilson, David Penfold, Greg Pierce (Canterbury); Alan Lints (Northland); Hus Bhika (Wellington); Bruce Keningson, Wayne Frost (Manawatu). Forwards: Simon Norton, Jim Smith, Mark Kake, Mark Leaver (Auckland); Chris Leslie, Richard Schoeman, Mcßobb (Canterbury); Laurie Gallen, Kevin Gallen, Paul Shtman (Wellington); Paul i (Hawke’s Bay); Brian Colban (Wairarapa). A squad of players from smaller associations has been selected to attend a training camp in Wellington on March 1 and 2. It is:

J. Garnett, M. Poole, S. Pitman (Tauranga); T. Flanagan, P. Creagh, P. Bone (West Coast); C. Parker, M. Vautier (Hamilton); S. Anderson, G. McEwan, B. Sherwin (North Otago); P.
