Museum awaits new home

The Royal New Zealand Air Force museum at Wigram being closed temporarily to await new premises. At left, the museum director/ Squadron Leader John Barry, shuts the doors of No. 7 hangar, temporary home of the museum. Locking a side door is Flight Sergeant George Jaunzemis. Squadron Leader Sandy Currie is working in the background. The new museum will be built at the entrance to Wigram air base and is expected to open on April 1, 1987, the fiftieth anniversary of the R.N.Z.A.F.

The museum will feature up to 20 aircraft and will also have several galleries with aviation displays. The two-storey building was designed by a Christchurch architect, Mr D. E. Donnithorne, and includes a library, auditorium,, research centre, and reception area. It will be used as a research centre by the Air Force, and will be open to the/puhlic.
