The Department is completing a conversion of all systems to IBM 3083 and MVS/SP operating system, CICS telecommunications, TSO timeshare and IMS database. As this conversion completes, work will begin on new applications aimed at hospital boards and the Department of Health The department runs a nationwide network of IBM mainframes linked by SNA using CODEX communications equipment. Distributed processing using IBM system 36's and PC’s also link into mainframe centres at Christchurch and Auckland. Languages in use are COBOL, PCS/ADS application generator and SAS statistical analysis/reporter package. The positions offer new development work as well as maintaining existing systems, an advanced technical environment, clearly defined career paths, access to training (there is provision for paid study leave) and excellent salary and conditions. Glide time (flexible working hours) is in use. The positions are located in central Christchurch with easy access to bus routes and city shopping.
