COMMUNICATIONS CO-ORDINATOR The Department of Health, Data Processing Division, Christchurch, one of the largest computer installations in the South Island, wishes to recruit a Communications Co-ordinator for its rapidly expanding network. This Is an excellent opportunity for a person with communications experience to become involved in the early stages of a large nationwide network. The size of the network has doubled in the last year with comparable growth expected in the future. The mainframe is an IBM 3083, the network is SNA and the communications processors are CODEX 6050’5. Applicants should have a sound knowledge of data communication concepts and indepth experience in network control. Applicants with experience on IBM Hardware, SNA networks, IBM network support software and CODEX communication equipment would have an advantage. The position Involves responsibility for a team of network staff therefore demonstrated supervisory skills are required. EDP CONSULTANTS The Department of Health invites suitably qualified professionals to apply for the above positions In its Christchurch Computer Centre. The consultants will be expected to advise Hospital Boards in the use of existing systems and the development of systems and facilities to meet their own need. The department is currently completing a conversion of all systems to IBM 3083 and MVS/SP operating system, CICS telecommunication, TSO timeshare and IMS database. As this conversion is completed work will begin on new applications aimed at the Hospital ’Boards and the Department of Health. The person appointed will be expected to have at least: — 5-8 years in data processing, including several years in systems analysis. — Successful history of systems implementation. — Advanced communication skills. — Exposure to project management techniques. A professional or relevant academic qualification would be an advantage as would knowledge of IBM mainframe computers and software; realtime systems and remote network use.
