Shipment of newsprint
More than 5000 rolls of Canadian newsprint have been off loaded from the Greek ship Epimelia at the Port of Lyttelton during the last week. The 5282-roll shipment is destined for newspapers in Christchurch, Marloorough, Nelson, the West Coast, and South Canterbury. The Epimelia had to anchor in-stream at Auckland for a number of days last month because of a ban put on the newsprint by the Waterside Workers’ Federation. The ban was imposed in support of pulp and paper workers who had been locked out of the Kawerau pulp and paper mill. The ban was lifted once the Kawerau dispute was resolved. Some newspapers, including “The Press,” had to conserve newsprint as a result of the dispute and ban. The Epimelia sailed for Dunedin yesterday afternoon with newsprint for Otago and Southland newspapers. ARRIVALS Union Dunedin (6.50 a.m.), 9330, Dunedin (U.M.S.).
