Six artists
Five painters and one photographer show their current works at exhibitions opening at the C.S.A. Gallery today.
Richard Bigus presents a solo show of collage paintings. A graduate from the University of Southern California with a masters in fine art from Yale, he is at present the visiting lecturer in design at the Canterbury School of Fine Art. He sees the role of all visual artists in our era of increasing information and communication technology as challenging. He feels technology to be simply a creative tool. A tutor in painting and art history at the Otago Polytechnic School of Art, Wallace Crossman exhibits in the Canaday Gallery. He is particularly fascinated by the means of painting, which he has explored
through the action of painting reading and looking. Rosalie Crossman also shows recent works, expressing in her paintings a strong interest in rhythm, line, colour and shape. Sam Mahon’s work is not new to Christchurch art lovers.
The large shaped paintings of Terry Urbahn may appear abstract but have a number of figurative differences. He is interested in using colour, shape, and line in sharp contrast. Photography by Kerry Ann Boyle consists of a selection of black and white prints from a project she has been working on entitled "Power and Beauty.” Also included are polaroids from a separate project “Colour in the Environment.”
All exhibitions are open until November 24.
