North Canty XI falls to Nelson
Nelson beat North Canterbury by 34 runs in a two-day representative cricket match which ended at Dudley Park, Rangiora, on Sunday. The highlight of the match was the 114 runs scored by the Nelson batsman, Steve Gill, which included an incredible 102 runs in boundaries. Gill hit 15 fours and seven sixes. • Playing only his second game for North Canterbury, Mike Satterthwaite had a fine double with scores of 80 and 42. Chasing 221 runs to win the match, North Canterbury was
dismissed for 186 in its second innings. The Nelson offspinner, Gary Walton, bowled right through the innings, taking six wickets for 84 runs. Nelson 209/7 dec. (S. Gill 114, R. Pierce 22, M. Aitken 41 not out; S. McNally 3/16) and 207/7 dec. (J. Smith 57, P. Wates 49, D. Guthardt 38, Aitken 29; G. Saunders 3/57, C. Abbott 3/50) beat North Canterbury 196/7 dec. (P. Williams 51, M. Satterthwaite 80, Hamish Wright 22) and 186 (M. Johnston 31, Hugh Wright 31, Satterthwaite 42; G. Walton 6/ 84).
