Invention will be marketed
PA Wellington A computer software system developed by a scientist with the Meteorological Service to obtain information from rainfall records will be marketed through the Development Finance Corporation.
The Minister of Civil Aviation and Meteorological Services, Mr Prebble, and the inventor of the system, Dr John Revfeim, have signed a deed of assignment. The deed transfers to the corporation the right to commercial development of the software, which is called
"DRIPS.” The programme had enabled the Meteorological Service to get more com-mercially-useful information from the many thousands of available rainfall records, Mr Prebble said. It would have wide application in many other countries which collect similar data. The information was needed for commercial applications such as the study of plant growth, investigations into the viability of an introduced horticultural crop, and some civil engineering projects, Mr Prebble said.
