Biggest political trickster

NZPA-Reuter Munich, West Germany

Bavaria’s Minister-Presi-dent, Franz Josef Strauss, won the “Golden Trickster” award as West Germany’s “biggest political trickster”. He accepted. The award is made by a fund-raising group of West German businessmen called the Tricksters Club and carries a prize of 20,000 marks ($12,100) which the winner must give to charity. Mr Strauss, aged 70, heads the Right-wing Christian Social Union in West Germany’s coalition Government and is famed for his sharp tongue, quick wit, and taste for controversy.
