Kindergarten teachers

Sir,—While kindergarten teachers felt that the article in “The Press” of October 23 represented a typical morning’s work, we would clarify one point. The article said that teachers work from 8.30 a.m. until 4 p.m. but no mention was made of the duties kindergarten teachers willingly undertake outside these hours. These include compulsory monthly committee meetings, attendance at fund-raising functions and working bees. Teachers also provide special Saturday and evening sessions which allow parents, friends and relatives to participate in a kindergarten session. These sessions cater for working parents. Parent education workshops are also run during lunch hours 1 and some evenings. — Yours, etc., ANNIE TANNER. Publicity Officer, Christchurch Branch K.T.A. October 23, 1985.
