Beauty win to Chch again
The winner of this year’s “Face of the 80s" contest, Ms Sarah Rathbun, thinks the southern air might be one explanation for the success of Christchurch models in the contest.
Christchurch models have won the contest in each of the three years it has been held.
Ms Rathbun, aged 22, was to marry in February, but the date would have to be moved forward or back, she said. One of her prizes, a trip to New York to compete in the world “Face of the 80s” contest, coincides with her wedding plans. She has been modelling for only about seven months, having started after being approached on the street by a photographer. Training she received at the Spotlight Model Agency contributed to her success, she said.
Modelling will take second place for the next few weeks though, as Ms Rathbun has physiotherapy examinations to sit. She said she would see what happened on the modelling scene for a few years and then would return to physiotherapy.
The director of the Spotlight Model Agency, Mrs Maree Pannell, said the success of the Christchurch women had forced North Islanders to recognise model agencies in Christchurch.
