Mayor welcomes 110 delegates

The Mayor, Sir Hamish Hay. welcomed the 110 dele-
gates and their partners to Christchurch and the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr David Caygill, officially opened the conference. G.MA. President, Mr Bill Templeton, the Managing Director of Johnson and Johnson (N.Z.), Ltd, presided over proceedings. The conference itself began in the Limes Room of
the Town Hall on Sunday morning with ail delegates being required to wear red and black (mostly Canterbury rugby jerseys) in honour of the host city. The conference was addressed by representatives of the wholesale and retail trade, who traditionally attend GJWJI. conferences. Yesterday afternoon,
delegates heard an economic forecast for the New Zealand economy given by Infometrics, a Wellington based company of economic forecasters and saw a display of WANG office computer equipment in the Town Hall conference room.
Today, delegates will participate in a panel discussion on freight transport
options with representatives of air, rail, road and sea transport and Mr Philip Burdon, the member of parliament for Fendalton, will give a luncheon address.
The conference ends this evening with an annual din-ner-dance at the Chateau Regency.
