Specialist areas cover chemical and ( microbiological water quality, environmental impact assessments, marine microbiology and biotech- < nology, nuisance and toxic algal blooms, nutrients j and water quality for freshwater and marine farming, environmental microbiology, pollution monitaring, effluent discharges and outfall problems, ‘ marine product processing, ecological studies. These inhouse skills are complemented by specialist skills s from other scientists and organisations associated i with the Institute. 1 Present clients concerned with the use, conservation and development of water resources in- i elude developers, planning authorities, the fishing industry, local government agencies, consulting engineers, central government, harbour boards, regional water boards, environmental and conservation interests, industry, coastal users and managers. This is a senior position and the successful - applicant will be expected to act in a consultant . capacity in one or more of the above apecialist areas, be able to foster and maintain effective working relations with people within and outside the institute, be skilled in report preparation to timetables, and be able to promote the technical services available and negotiate with clients.
